This collaboration heralds a groundbreaking opportunity for IHRSA-affiliated fitness centers to integrate Hudson Valley Swim's renowned swim school into their offerings. Beyond the obvious fitness benefits, this move also aligns with a broader societal mission – drowning prevention. By incorporating swim lesson programs, fitness facilities can actively participate in community safety efforts, imparting vital water safety skills to individuals of all ages.

The importance of swim education cannot be overstated, and Hudson Valley Swim's expertise in this realm ensures that fitness facilities can play a pivotal role in reducing drowning incidents within their communities. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NY HOSPITALS WILL SOON PLAY PIVOTAL ROLE IN CHILDHOOD DROWNING PREVENTION AS GOVERNOR HOCHUL SIGNS GROUNDBREAKING WATER SAFETY LAW

New York, NY – OCTOBER 26, 2023 – The New York Water Safety Coalition (NYWSC) together with the US Swim School Association (USSSA) are thrilled to announce that Senate Bill S.3608-A (Webb)/Assembly Bill A.4987-A (Pheffer Amato), has been signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul.

Drowning is the leading cause of death for children under 5 and now kills about 4,000 people across the country each year. New York ranks fourth in total drownings in the nation, and drownings occur in every region of our state. Governor Hochul has helped to save countless young lives by signing this bill into law.

This landmark legislation, now Chapter 588 of the Laws of 2023, aims to educate parents, the first line of defense against childhood drowning. It mandates that New York hospitals offer new parents a brief, state-approved informational video focusing on the critical issue of drowning risks for infants and young children. Given that drowning, which disproportionately affects minorities, remains the leading cause of death for children under five, this initiative represents a monumental advance in public safety.

21 & Change, a nonprofit organization committed to aiding children and young adults with developmental disabilities through scholarships and advocacy for Individualized Education Programs (IEP), is delighted to announce a new collaboration with New Life Village and Hudson Valley Swim to establish a swimming safety program.

In a generous gesture, 21 & Change is providing a $6,000 grant to New Life Village, an innovative residential community offering a secure and supportive intergenerational environment for families striving to provide a permanent home for children who have experienced foster care or trauma.

This grant will be instrumental in introducing a swimming program designed to benefit the youngsters residing within the affordable housing community situated in Hillsborough County. Drowning poses a significant risk to children, particularly those with disabilities, and this program is dedicated to addressing this concern directly. The grant will fund swim safety and swimming lesson scholarships for 18 children at New Life Village, ranging in age from one to ten years old. While not all of them are on 504 plans or IEPs, they have all endured various forms of trauma.

The Urgent Need for Swim Instruction: Did you know that in the United States, over 12,000 drownings occur annually, with a staggering 4,000 resulting in fatality? These alarming statistics highlight the crucial importance of swim instruction and water safety.

Hudson Valley Swim is a leading swim lesson program that has developed unique techniques based on best practices from various industry associations along with its own expert techniques to provide a comprehensive and highly effective learning experience for students of all ages and abilities.

The Key to Success, A Winning Combination: One might assume that running a swim school business requires extensive aquatics expertise. However, we offer a business model that does not necessitate a background in aquatics. Instead, our winning combination revolves around seamlessly integrating a well-run business strategy, a strong social media presence, exceptional customer service, and the recruitment and training of the best teachers of swimming in the area. This unique blend ensures that franchisees will excel without prior experience, by relying on their dedication and their attention to superior customer service.

The idea first developed when Hudson Valley Swim was approached by a parent in our Middletown program. Each week they drove more than 30 miles from Monticello to our facility in Middletown because as she explained, “There wasn’t a single option in all of Sullivan County for swim lessons!”

“Soon afterward, the Monticello Hampton Inn General Manager contacted us and pleaded with us to start a program there”, Joan Gartner, COO of Hudson Valley Swim explained. Joan further commented, “She told us they already did the homework and had nearly 100 families interested!”

After locating a few experienced instructors in the area, and sending them to our extensive month-long training program, Hudson Valley Swim is excited to announce that our award-winning swim lesson program will be offered to the community of Monticello and surrounding areas starting May 31st!

Whether in a group or private class, each Hudson Valley Swim student receives specialized instruction and individualized attention from one of our experienced swim coaches. The method of teaching swimming used by Hudson Valley Swim is based on a holistic philosophy that prioritizes safety, enjoyment, and the acquisition of lifelong swimming skills.
